During the Vidovdan festivities, a foundation stone for the future Veterans’ Center was symbolically laid by the Minister of Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Milica Đurđević Stamenkovski and the Minister of Defense Bratislav Gašić, along with the representative of Veteran Associations Bojan Tomić.
Attending the event were Milan Mojsilović, Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, Mayor Ivan Manojlović, President of City Assembly Dr. Dragana Barišić, Deputy Mayor Snežana Radojković, directors of city companies and institutions, and other representatives of the public, political, and veteran spheres of the city.
The ceremony, which marked the beginning of the construction, was opened by Minister Gašić who had initiated the whole idea about building the Center.
“Standing on this site that will, by God’s will and our efforts, be the location of the Veterans’s Center, I feel pride and sorrow. All of you, brothers and sisters gathered here, understand and deeply appreciate the value of sacrifice that our citizens – fathers, brothers, cousins, friends, and neighbors made defending the country and its people.
You are aware of the courage with which the active army reserves raised their weapons to defend their motherland, hearth, and family, defying opposing forces and injustice.
I am proud that we have been able to muster the strength and build a facility that will house a great number of veteran associations, a facility worthy of them, where they can spend their time in dignity.
I am sad that we did not built it before this moment.”
This space of the former Art Theater will now be the location of the new Veterans’ Center that will cater to the needs of the veterans associations of Kruševac. The investment is worth 65 million RSD.
The new 500-square-meter building (ground floor and first floor) will be multifunctional, with enough space for organizing various activities, workshops, educational courses, and meetings.
Through this act, the City of Kruševac showed the continual and multiyear support veterans associations had been receiving from the City.
