Mayor Manojlović and the President of the City Assembly Dragana Barišić laid wreath today at the Monument to Kosovo Heroes, to mark the Statehood Day of Serbia, in attendance of the representatives of the public and political life of Kruševac.

Other officials have also laid wreaths in honor of the Statehood Day: the Head of District Administration Ivan Anđelić, delegation representatives of the army, police, army officer reseves, SUBNOR, The War-Disabled Veteran groups and Veteran group “Bojevo bratsvo“, Freedom tradition nurturing groups, Army Retiree Groups, Retiree Group “Car Lazar“, Circle of Serbian Sisters group, political parties and other freedom organizations.

Statehood Day is celebrated in Serbia in honor of February 15, 1804. On this date, on the holiday of “Sretenje”, the First Serbian Uprising against the 5-century long Ottoman rule was organized and carried out, helmed by Karađorđe in the village of Orašac. Additionally, in 1835, on the same date, in the grand National Assembly in Kragujevac, the first constitution of Serbia called “The Constitution of Sretenje“ was established, marking the start of the contemporary Serbian statehood.

Sretenje was officially declared as the Statehood Day on July 10, 2001.
