Statehood Day of Serbia

Republic of Serbia celebrates Statehood Day in remembrance of two historically important events.

The first was the gathering in Orašac in 1804, which sparked the First Serbian Uprising against the Ottoman, led by Đorđe Petrović Karađorđe, on the religious holiday – Sretenje.

The second event was the announcement of the first Constitution of the Monarchy of Serbia – The Constitution of Sretenje, in Kragujevac of 1835, in the Grand Assembly. The Constitution of Sretenje marked the start of a contemporary Serbian state, proclaiming the foundational values of our people: freedom, independence and non-beligerence.

Sretenje was proclaimed as the Statehood Day on July 10, 2001, being celebrated since February 15, 2002.

Mayor Ivan Manojlović and President of City Assembly Dragana Barišić took part in a wreath-laying event at the Kosovo Heroes Monument.

 

Others who participated in the ceremony were representatives of the Rasina Administrative District, Army Seniors Reserve, SUBNOR, Disabled Army Veterans Association, Army Veteran Association “Battle Brothers”, Assocoiation for Nurturing of Freedom Traditions, Rasina Ditrict Gendarmerie Veteran Association, Retiree Associations of City of Kruševac, Patriotic Movement of Serbia Association, Cicrle of Serbian Sisters.

The wreath-laying ceremony was attended by the City Officials, and directors of public companies and institutions.
