Serbian Armed Forces Day, April 23, was the occasion for the wreath-laying ceremony held at the Kosovo Heroes Monument. Serbian Armed Forces chose this day in honor of the Second Serbian Uprising in 1815, which represents the starting point of the creation of the modern Serbian military and state. It is the day that reminds of the historical foundations of the miltary and its deep connection to the Serbian freedom fighting efforts.

Serbian Armed Forces have traditionally remained closely linked to the people, as it was throughout history. The link remains, even during the professionalization of the military members, the mutual trust is strengthened through army assistance and aid during emergency situations, and by an increased interest in youth to volunteer, serve in the army, and attend the Military Academy.
