International Day of Forests and World Water Day are celebrated globally on March 21 and March 22, respectively, and on that occasion, a joint tree planting took place on March 21 on Bagdala, on the lot of PUC “Vodovod”. The event was organized by the City of Kruševac, PUC “Vodovod” and Public Company “Srbijašume”.
Mayor’s Aide for Ecology, Sustainable Development, and Energy, Ana Prvanov reminded everyone of the importance of these dates.
International Day of Forests has been celebrated since 1971, on the initiative of the European Confederation of Agriculture, in order to raise awareness about the importance of trees and highlight the numerous usefulness of forest vegetation.
March 22 is World Water Day, accepted by the UN Resolution in 1992. The first time the World Water Day was celebrated was in 1993, and it has only gained in popularity and importance ever since.
Mayor’s Aide Prvanov added that a message had been sent to the youngest citizens about the importance of preserving these resources for the benefit of the community, through the act of tree planting.
“As in the previous years, PUC “Vodovod” celebrates these significant dates, wishing to point out the importance of water as an invaluable natural resource and its adequate use.
We are on our PUC’s site on Bagdala, which is one of the most beautiful city parks, and the location of our central water tank for Kruševac.
Over 40 children, with the help of “Srbijašume” are planting 200 White Pine trees that will both make this space more beautiful and help the youngest realize the importance of natural riches and its preservation and protection”, said Vladimir Milosavljević, the director of PUC “Vodovod”.
“The mission of “Srbijašume” is to improve the current condition of forests through sustainable and responsible management, so to leave the best possible ecological environment to future generations”, explained the director of PC “Srbijašume”- Kruševac branch, Saša Đurđević.
The importance of forests is in regulating climate, which has become a global problem, in regulating waters, and is also an important link in the food chain.
Forests represent one of the most complex and invaluable natural resources and ecosystems, both for humankind and biodiversity as a whole.
