The City of Kruševac participated in a meeting with the delegation of the Council of Europe that monitors the application of the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence (Istanbul Convenvtion). The delegation is a part of GREVIO – Group of Experts on Action against Violence against Women and Domestic Violence. Other participants of the meeting were representatives of the Cabinet of the Minister without portfolio in charge of gender equality, prevention of violence against women and economic and political empowerment of women, and the representatives of the City of Kruševac.
The visit was a part of the process for the creation of an evaluation report on the Istanbul Convention application in the Republic of Serbia. Representatives of Kruševac and Center for Social Work of Kruševac shared with the visitors their current results, steps of the procedure, and experience regarding the cases of violence against women and domestic violence in our area.
It was noted that the application of the Istanbul Convention had helped in further developing the legislation procedure in this area and raising awareness about reporting these cases of violence, however, there was still work needed to be done in increasing the institutional capacities, empowering and bringing new measures of female victim support, and further awareness raising regarding the violence and domestic violence, especially denoting the importance of reporting them in order for justice to be served.
The meeting was attended by President of City Assembly and Head of Gender Equality Council Dr Dragana Barišić, President of Gender Equality Commission Ana Grubač, President of Health Council Dr Rada Joksimović Zmejkoski, Director of Center for Social Work Jovana Dunjić and her Deputy Director Ivana Petrović, and other associates.
