The traditional half marathon was held in Kruševac on March 15, with the record number of registered participants – 3000.
The sports event was organized by the athletic club “Maratonac”, under the patronage of the City of Kruševac.
On behlf of the city, Head of City Administration Vesna Anđelić, Mayor’s Aide for Sports and Youth Nevena Plavšić, and Deputy Mayor Snežana Radojković were present, with the latter officially marking the start of the race. This year’s promoter was famous Serbian athlete and runner Olivera Jevtić.
On behelf of the “Maratonac” club, Seniša Gašić stated that this year’s half marathon had had the most registered participants:
“We started with 300 participants, now we have 3000. Huge thanks to the runners who have come to our city, we will ty to meet your expectations and earn your trust. Thank you to all the sponsors, City of Kruševac, the volunteers, and the organizational committee, I do not want to forget anyone. I wish you to run your best, these are ideal weather conditions, and again, thank you all so much, without you all this would not be worth it”.
This year’s promoter was Olivera Jevtić, the most successful Serbian marathon runner. Olivera expressed happiness when seeing the turnout:
“Month of March is an excellent month for marathons, mostly because of the weather, which is one of the most important factors for runner turnouts. I think Kruševac invests a lot in sports events and I am very glad that it has been making a name in that area recently. I am sure that young children and future athletes will follow in the footsteps of famous athletes and achieve great results through this event, particularly because Kruševac has a strong sports tradition. I wish the runners light legs, run the length you have been training for, and above all else, enjoy the run”.
The event was officially opened by Deputy Mayor Radojković:
“Dear participants, organizers, citizens and guests, it is my great pleasure to greet you on behalf of the City of Kruševac. I would like to express my gratitude to Mr. Seniša Gašić and his club “Maratonac” who have organized this event, the 11th half marathon. They have been persevere in their goal to make this event a tradition, thanks to the numerous sponsors and friends, and thanks to the participants who have been taking part every year in large numbers. We have also had the pleasure to see the youngest children participate in the pleasure run, and today we will watch the 5 , 10, and 21k runs. Kruševac is the city of young and sports, we will continue investing in these areas. Let us count down to the race start”.
Before the main race, recreational ones were held called “Pleasure Run” and “Children’s Smile” for the youngest ones. Awards and trophies were given in male and female categories, in addition to different age categories.
The winner of the 21k run was Nikola Mijailović. Trophies and awards were handed by Mayor’s Aide Plavšić, Olivera Jevtić, and Director of “Poslovni Centar” Miloš Milošević.
