Representatives of City of Kruševac visited Twin City Szentendre in Hungary. They attended the program related to celebrating Serbian Forgiveness and church holidays Transfiguration and Saint Stephen Day. The Kruševac delegation consisted of Vesna Anđelić, Head of City Administration of Kruševac, Maja Marković, Director of Regional Chamber of Commerce – Kruševac, and Miloš Milošević, Director of Business Center of Kruševac.
On the day of the said holiday, August 19, Metropolitan of Budim Mister Lucian held a Holy Liturgy. After the liturgy, a service, attended by our delegation and Mayor of Szentendre, Mister Zsolt Fülöp, and other numerous guests and citizens, was held.
The Serbian community of Szentendre organizes Serbian Forgiveness on a yearly basis, as it is one of the most important religious holidays that embodies unity and tradition of the Serbian community.
In the afternoon hours, Mayor Fülöp held a meeting with his associates and the representatives of Kruševac. The topics of the meeting were further relations and fields in which both cities can cooperate and work together, among other relation-building discussions.
Head of City Administration Anđelić held a presentation and introduced the officials of Szentendre to the important completed projects of Kruševac, in addition to the ongoing ones, and the ones whose realization is expected to start in the very near future.
After the evening service in the church, a cultural-art program took place, realized by the Cultural-Art Association “Taban” and Serbian Self-Government of Szentendre. The traditional Serbian Ball dance, and orchestra performances of Boban Marković and “Kolo” from Tukulja were also a part of the cultural-art program in Prince Lazar Square of Szentendre.
In addition, the delegation from Kruševac also had the opportunity to see the Cross of Prince Lazar, an important symbol of the history and spirituality of Serbia, located within the Serbian Orthodox Church complex in Szentendre (the complex was one of the most important cultural and religious hubs of the Serbian diaspora in Hungary).
The second day of the visit was reserved for city sightseeing. After the city tour, the central event started – the celebration of the most important state holiday, State Founding Day, which is dedicated to Saint Stephen of Hungary, the first ruler who set the foundation of the Hungarian statehood over a thousand years ago.
