Vrnjačka Banja is hosting the 20th International Workshop for IT assignments “DABAR” (BEBRAS). On that occasion, Mayor Ivan Manojlović, together with the President of the City Assembly Doctor Dragana Barišić and the Mayor’s Aide for Social Activities Snežana Aleksić, held a reception for the participants (over 100 professors from 85 countries).
“DABAR” is an international IT and IT literacy competition for the primary and secondary school students, with the aim of rasing IT interest in young students. The focus is not only on coding and technical knowledge but also on general subjects and concrete problem solving. The professors’ goal is to prepare advanced assignments that would encourage algorithmic way of thinking, logical problem-solving, and appropriate use of IT.
During their stay in Serbia, the participants of this prestigious competition visited Kruševac, as the headquarters of the “Association of IT Professors of Serbia ” is in our city.
The Mayor greeted and welcomed them, emphasizing that Kruševac recognizes the importance of education, investing significantly in that area, which brings improvement and prosperity. A great attention is paid to the young and talented ones, in order to develop their talents as much as possible.
Kruševac is a city famous for its hospitality, which the guests could see first-hand, as visits to the museum, downtown, the Miniature Park on Bagdala were organized. During the reception, a guide was present who explained the history and stories behind the beautiful mosaics of the famous Mosaic Hall they were standing in.
Regarding the student participants of the competition, so far, half a million of students have taken part and tested their IT expertise against their peers from around the world.
As for the history of the competition, it was originally held in 2004, in Lithuania, for the first time. It has been organized in more than 60 countries around the world, and Serbia has been the host since 2013.
